County Parks is offering a fitness & specialty class grounds rental option to groups who are planning organized use of County Parks during the Covid-19 pandemic and as long as the State and County allow such actives under current phase of re-opening. The rental has a fee (see below) which provides an affordable rate while encouraging organized recreational use of County parks with minimal impact on park use and maintenance.
The Fitness or Specialty Class Use Application can be used to request use of County Parks for organized fitness programs/ specialty classes. Upon approval of request, a reservation permit will be prepared for your review and signature through DocuSign. A payment is due at that time of booking with full payment required or an option for an approved payment plan. Payments can also be received by phone, check in the mail, or in person with cash, check and credit card.

Below are the current restrictions and details for fitness groups in County Parks.
- How many customers am I allowed to have?
We are currently limiting the number of allowed participants to 14 persons at a time, including the instructor.
- Do my customers have to wear face masks?
Face mask are not required during outdoor exercise. Though face masks are required while in public in Santa Cruz County as well as physical distancing. - Where can I conduct my classes in the park?
The rental allows for use of an unspecified portion of the grounds, i.e. open turf area, trails/walking paths while the park remains open for public use. It does not include use of athletic fields or reservable picnic areas, meeting rooms, Park centers or tennis/basketball courts, all of which have separate fees and conditions of use.
- What do I need to provide for my covid-19 business protocol/plan?
Permittees will need to submit a document to County Parks with their protocols for following COVID-19 guidance to include a written established physical distancing guideline, set up individual control measures and screenings, perform a detailed risk assessment and create a site-specific protection plan. This can be provided in a Word, PDF, Google Docs, or just in the body of an email.
The fitness program/ specialty class hourly rental fee is $10.00 resident / $11 non-resident and requires five bookings per month with one-hour minimum booking. There is no continuous user discount. Non-profits receive a 20% discount. A $1,000,000 general liability per occurrence insurance certificate, with specific additional insured wording, will be required for all fitness and class programs.
