County Parks is thrilled to offer free virtual movement and art classes for all levels! Developed with the expertise and passion from the team at the Tannery World Dance and Cultural Center, this wide range of movement classes ranging from Pilates, Hip Hop, Contemporary and Modern dance, Capoeira, Soca/Zumba, Yoga, (and more) are available for you to enjoy at home!

 

Simple Sewing for Kids and Adults with Sonia

This class will introduce you to the foundations of sewing and teach you how to make a small bag with a zipper!

Drawing Monarch Butterflies for Kids/Adults with Linda

We will create a Monarch Butterfly in its habitat. It will be step by step drawing with pencil, sharpie and watercolors. Linda will also share some of the wonderful stories about these beautiful migrating creatures.

Beginning Contemporary Dance for Adults with Molly

This class is all about connecting to our bodies, our sensation, our joy of moving; you could never get it wrong since there is an endlessness of possibilities. We will also play with gravity and the weight of our bodies and practice releasing into momentum so we can fly, swing, swoop, surrender, yield, and fall. Let's remember we have bodies who have an incredible capacity to feel and what it's like to move together again.

Leaps and Turns Dance Technique with Charliegh

This virtual class will provide the dancer with daily exercises to help improve leaps and turn. This includes, fuller extensions in leaps, hamstring support and strengthening for injury prevention, along with finding YOUR center line and highest releve!

Dun Dun Dance of Guinea, Africa with Mohamed

Dundun Dance is an exciting combination of dance and percussion with sticks originating in West Africa. Mohamed breaks down the rhythms and dynamics of dance that invites all levels to enjoy this unique style of powerful percussion.

Finding Power Through Movement for Adults with Nathan

Through playful, challenging, and sensual guided and freestyle movement, this class will guide you deep into the healing and invigorating power of your body.

Capoeira with Papiba & Melanie

Capoeira's aim is to develop a sense of community while introducing Brazilian culture by exposure to Portuguese words and counting, stories and the philosophy of Capoeira. Participants enjoy a fun environment for learning the physical aspects of Capoeira which include basic movements, roda, music, rhythm and some acrobatics.

Movement for all levels with Santa Cruz Movement

Our classes are influenced by the work and philosophies of our teacher Ido Portal. Students develop and refine spinal health, strength, mobility, coordination, prehab/rehab protocols and cultivate an awareness of a generalist movement perspective; oriented towards growth and evolution across all fields and areas in life.

Contemporary Jazz Dance Warm Up and Choregraphy with Angela

In this intermediate contemporary jazz class, you will learn a basic and effective warm up series and delve right into a feel good, lyrical based excerpt of choreography. Dancers are encouraged and supported in finding their unique interpretation of the movement and story within the technique and execution of the choreography.

This two part class will introduce you to the foundations of Pilates and how to successfully strengthen. Part 1: The Introduction class will teach you how to use your core versus increasing tension in your hips, neck and back.Learn how to avoid common mistakes that cause injury and strain.

Multi-Level Pilates with Sandy (Part 2)

This two part class will introduce you to the foundations of Pilates and how to successfully strengthen. Part 2: The Multi-level Pilates mat class provides a variety of options for each exercise. Modifications, prop suggestions and cues will guide you to choose the best option for your strength level. Take charge of your body and well-being through intelligent and mindful exercise.

Pilates to Release Your Hips with Sandy (Part 3)

Release your hips! Sitting and stress bring added tightness to the hips and low back. This class combines ball rolling muscle release with core and gluteal strengthening. Find release in the low back and hips by strengthening the surrounding muscles groups. The exercises in this class can be used as a quick break in your day or supplement your regular workout for greater relief to your body.

Soca/Zumba with Eugenia

In this Soca/Zumba session, Eugenia will teach you the different rhythms featured around the Caribbean and the rest of the globe. This class is guaranteed to make you, dance, sweat, laugh, fill your soul, and leave you with a feeling of love, and contentment, despite these adverse times and daily challenges.This class is designed for anyone who loves to dance, smile, and appreciate what their bodies are able to do. Most of all, this is a beautiful way of staying fit and keeping one's body in shape.

This series of 10 classes features simple exercises that you can do indoors or outdoors at your local County park! These videos are all in English and Spanish.

Aerobics Conditioning with Aliya

In this fun and upbeat conditioning class, participants will get their heart rates up while enjoying a full-body workout. We’ll start with simple dance movements to get our bodies warm, and thentransition to strengthening exercises for upper body and core conditioning. The class will end with juicy movement and stretching.

Healthy Eating on a Tight Budget with Jocelyn

In this class, participants will spend time (virtually) in the kitchen with Jocelyn learning how to prepare healthy foods on a tight budget. Quick and easy meal preparation techniques, tips, and tricks will be provided.

Qigong for Health with Linda

Taiji Standing Meditation, (Zhan Zhuang), is a qigong that teaches body alignment, grounding, breathing, calmness and energy circulation. The Eight Pieces of Brocade, (Baduanjin), is a good beginner’s set of Taoist style qigong. This qigong channels energy throughout the body and belongs to the category of medical qigong.

Letting Go of Superwoman: Self-Care for Women of Color with Maiya

In her 1988 memoir, A Burst of Light, Audre Lorde wrote, “caring for myself is not self-indulgence, it is self-preservation, and that is an act of political warfare.” This presentation will uncover the unique health challenges that women of color experience, look at how the “superwoman” mentality can be harmful to their health, and discover ways to expand the conversation around mental health

Welcome to a world of self expression! Unleash it by expressing all that you are in the cypher. Learn the art of Hip Hop skills and techniques. We will be developing strong, sharp movements mixed with technique and flow from Hip Hop culture./p>

Contemporary Dance for Teens/Adults with Madi

This class will include exploring movement dynamics, finding momentum in movement, floor-work, and the interplay between using muscle and finding softness in dancing. We will utilize improvisation to discover our own voice and creative force from within as well as to explore different textures, qualities, and possibilities of movement. We will tap into the felt experience and find way to follow our own sensation in the moment. We will gain choreographic tools and practice sharing our own stories through our choreographic choices.
