Beach Blanket Babylon

Come watch Steve Silver’s Beach Blanket Babylon, the longest running, hit musical revue in theatre history which premiered in 1974 and hasn’t slowed down since.  The show is a zany musical spoof of pop culture with extravagant costumes and outrageously huge hats.  It continually evolves in its hilarious parodies of popular icons, updating its targets and adding new characters each year.  Don’t miss this internationally acclaimed San Francisco institution.  Register now—tickets will not be purchased until minimum enrollment is met!  We will arrive in North Beach with time for lunch on your own before the 2 p.m. show.  Fee includes transportation and admission to show.

Alameda Island & Oakland Estuary Cruise with Lunch

Join us for a narrated tour about and around the Oakland Estuary and Alameda Island.  We’ve all driven over the bridges from Oakland to Alameda, but how many have cruised under the Bay Bridge, entered the estuary, and continued down the east side of Alameda? This trip is truly a “back door view” of both Oakland and Alameda, and gives a good sense of the history as well as current usage of the estuary and Bay sides of this island.  Four bridges will be opened for us as we cruise down the estuary before/during lunch!  After passing through the last bridge we pop out into San Francisco Bay and head over towards San Francisco before starting our return journey home. There will be time to take a look at the City Front, Yerba Buena Island and its lighthouse, and more as we cruise back to Berkeley.

*Please note: lunch is included in your registration fee. Lunch will be served on board and will include your choice of three tasty sandwiches, fresh fruit, Caesar salad, dessert and a non-alcoholic beverage.

Monterey Zoo & National Steinbeck Center

Did you know we have a zoo in our backyard?!  Tour this fascinating facility, formerly known as Wild Things, which is currently in the process of converting to a full-fledged zoo.  See the new enclosures that house professionally & humanely trained wild/exotic animals for film, television, live productions, education and much more as well as offer sanctuary to many rescued animals.  After visiting the lions, tigers, and other beautiful and intriguing animals, we’ll have an opportunity to feed carrots to a very grateful elephant!  After washing up, we’ll stop for lunch on your own nearby.

Next, we’ll board the bus and travel to the National Steinbeck Center, which houses the largest collection of Steinbeck archives in the United States, with various exhibits on his body of work and philosophy. There is also a wing dedicated to the experiences of agricultural workers in the United States, a topic that Steinbeck was passionate about.  This will make for a great day with a friend and/or grandchild!
